We absorb up to 60% of what we put on our skin. That’s why it’s so important to know what to look for in your skin and body care products.  At Lakewinds, you can trust that we’ve done most of the heavy reading for you already  – making it easy for you to pick out products that keep your skin and body healthy.

Facial Care
Avoid parabens, which have been liked to reproductive disorders and synthetic fragrances (sometimes listed as phthalates), which have been linked to cancer.  We recommend using Acure and Dr. Hauschka

Body Lotions
Avoid parabens and synthetic fragrances (sometimes listed as phthalates), as well as propylene glycol, which a petroleum derivative and has been linked to immunotoxicity.  We recommend using Desert Essence and Acure.

Hand Sanitizers
Avoid triclosan, which is a bioaccumulative environmental toxin and has been  linked to liver toxicity and hormone disruption. We recommend CleanWell, their line of sanitizer spray and wipes that uses the natural antiseptic power of thyme.

Again, avoid parabens and synthetic fragrances.  We recommend Mineral Fusion – paraben and synthetic fragrance free as well as never tested on animals.

Avoid oxybenzone and avobenzone, chemicals that are labeled as hormone disrupters. We recommend Badger Suncreens which uses zinc oxide to protect skin from UVA and UVB rays.

  1. I’ve used my “homemade” shampoo and conditioner and they make my hair feel fuller than the commercial shampoo (Murad) I used to use. Murad has gotten prohibitively too expensive.
